2010 Season Practices

Practice will begin on Tuesday, 6/1/2010. From 6/1 through 6/24, practice will be in the afternoons as follows:

After 6/28/09, practice will be in the morning before the pool opens as follows:

Guppy Practice begins Monday, June 28nd – 8:00 – 10:00am

2009 Swim Team Guidelines

Communication
The main form of communication for all matters pertaining to the swim team is through email. This includes information concerning: practice, meets, volunteer activities and fun events. Please check your email as frequently as possible! With a team as large as ours, it is impossible for every swimmer to be called or advised in person when changes are made. Checking your email frequently, at least once a day, will be your best link to receiving the most up-to-date information. File boxes containing a folder for each swim team family (in alphabetical order by last name) will be available in the pavilion during practices. Please check your folder regularly as this is where you will find the meet ribbons earned and any announcement flyers. Also check the message bulletin board, located in the pavilion for current swim team and guppy information, developmental meets and volunteer opportunities.

Time Trials
Time Trials are scheduled for Saturday, June 19, at 7:30am. Time Trials are conducted just like an official NVSL meet. Attendance is MANDATORY. Swimmers will qualify for Saturday meets based on the time recorded at Time Trials in each stroke. All swimmers will swim all four strokes, unless coaches advise otherwise. We need every parent to volunteer in some fashion for this event. Pool set-up will be Friday evening, June 18.

Team Pictures
Team photos, as well as individuals photos, will be taken at the pool on Wednesday, June 30th. Individual photos will start at 8am with 12 and under age group. Team photo including guppies will be from 9-9:30 and individual photos for 13 and up age group will begin at 9:30. Even if you do not plan to purchase pictures, please attend for the group picture. Team swimsuits (or the 2009 team t-shirt) are required for the group photo. A separate Guppy group picture will also be taken on this date (time TBD)

Directions to “Away” Saturday Meets
Swimmers participating in away Saturday meets are required to report to the pool parking lot that Saturday morning at the announced time (usually around 7am) to check in and pick up directions to the host pool. We must check in each swimmer, and allow time for substitutions if necessary.

Caps
HVST requires caps for every swimmer at every practice and meet. The NVSL requires that if a swim cap is worn during a meet, it cannot display any team logo other than ours. HVST caps and goggles will be available for purchase at practice.

Goggles
HVST requires that goggles be worn during practices and meets. Goggles are available for purchase during practice.The cost varies according to size and brand. Swimmers are notorious for misplacing goggles. Please make sure your swimmer has well-fitting goggles (and a back-up pair). Please write swimmer’s name on the goggles with permanent marker.

T-shirts
Team T-shirts are included with the registration fee if registered by June 1st. Swimmers should wear the team t-shirt to all meets. Guppies will receive their own T-shirt on June 29th to wear for picture day on the 30th.

To Participate in a Saturday Meet:
A swimmer must attend practice regularly. A draft meet sheet will be posted at practice on Thursday that will show the swimmers who qualify for the upcoming Saturday/Competitive meet. Please check the board each week because swimmers/strokes assigned are subject to change from week to week. If you know you will not be at a meet, you must record the dates you will be away in the I WILL NOT BE HERE” book, located in the pavilion during practice. This should be done as soon as possible. If a swimmer is sick and scheduled to swim on Saturday, please call the team rep, Linda Buckner, as soon as possible. Substitutions can be made at the last minute, and we want to avoid leaving an empty lane.

Check your e-mail frequently. Check the team web-site. Attend practice every day. Check your family file folder regularly. Check team bulletin boards.
